Initially emerging from reggae roots in the late 1970s in Jamaica, dancehall music soon evolved as a distinct genre. First dancehall centered on deejaying performing over sparse riddims, often produced by makers like King Jammy. The decade saw the increase of synthesized riddims, significantly changing the sound also bringing in more sophisticated
